About the Jackson Republican Party
The presidential election of 1824 featured four major candidates, all Democrat-Republicans: John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, William Crawford, and Henry Clay.
Members elected to the Eighteenth Congress are identified by a combination of their party label ("Democratic-Republican") and the candidate they supported for President ("Jackson"). After the 1824 election politics re-aligned around support for either John Quincy Adams or Jackson; Supporters of Jackson are subsequent labeled Jackson Supporters until the eventual formation of the Democratic Party.
