About the Pro-Administration Party
"Pro-Administration" is an informal factional label assigned to members of the first through third Congresses who typically voted in a bloc to support the Washington administration. Many of these Representatives and Senators were delegates to the Constitutional Conventions and favoured the "Federalist" position, in support of strong constitutional government. This label is identified with President George Washington and Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton. Classifications of members as belonging to this faction follow the labels in Martis, Kenneth. \textit{Historical Atlas of Political Parties in the United States Congress 1789-1989}. As power consolidated within formal political parties, most "Pro-Administration" members who continued in Congress joined the Federalist Party.
