About the American Labor Party (La Guardia)
"American Labor Party" was a minor, local New York based party active in the mid-1920s. After Fiorello H. La Guardia quit the Republican Party in protest that the party nominated conservative Calvin Coolige for President, La Guardia received the American Labor Party nomination. Owing to ballot access laws, La Guardia was actually elected as a Socialist Party member, but did not consider himself a socialist. Voteview.com labels La Guardia as American Labor, following Martis, Ken. The Historical Atlas of Political Parties in the United States Congress, 1789-1989. La Guardia subsequently returned to the Republican Party and was elected as a Republican to the three subsequent congresses.
