Biography
A Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Philadelphia, Pa., December 6, 1877; attended the public and high schools and was graduated from the law department of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia in 1898; was admitted to the bar in 1899 and commenced the practice of law in Philadelphia, Pa.; served as assistant city solicitor 1900-1909; member of the State house of representatives 1913-1915; served as director of public safety, Philadelphia, 1916-1920; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fourth Congress (January 3, 1935-January 3, 1937); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1936 to the Seventy-fifth Congress; died in Santa Barbara, Calif., August 11, 1937; remains were cremated and placed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Calif.
