Biography
Representative from Florida; born in Virginia February 23, 1812; studied law; was admitted to the bar and settled in Tallahassee, Fla.; member of the State house of representatives in 1837; served in the State senate 1840-1844, being its president in 1842; United States district attorney 1841-1843; upon the admission of Florida as a State into the Union successfully contested as a Democrat the election of Edward C. Cabell to the Twenty-ninth Congress and served from January 24, 1846, to March 3, 1847; died in Tallahassee, Fla., January 28, 1850; interment in the Episcopal Cemetery.Courtesy of Biographical Directory of the United States Congress
