Biography
A Representative from Tennessee; born in Rutledge, Grainger County, Tenn., July 16, 1815; pursued classical studies and was graduated from the East Tennessee College at Knoxville; studied law; was admitted to the bar and practiced in Rutledge and Nashville; member of the State house of representatives; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Congresses (March 4, 1845-March 3, 1849); chairman, Committee on Revolutionary Pensions (Thirtieth Congress); was not a candidate for reelection in 1848; held many local and State offices; died in Nashville, Tenn., February 6, 1896; interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery.Courtesy of Biographical Directory of the United States Congress
