Representative from Colorado; born in Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kans., May 24, 1954; graduated from Lansing High School, Lansing, Kans.,1972; B.S., University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kans., 1978; J.D., University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kans., 1985; lawyer, private practice; member of the Colorado state house of representatives, 1995-1998, majority whip, 1997-1998; member of the Colorado state senate, 1998-2006, president pro tempore, 1999-2000; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Tenth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2007-present).
