A Representative from Illinois; born in Indianapolis, Marion County, Ind., October 17, 1958; attended Glenbard North High School, Carol Stream, Ill.; B.A., Roosevelt University, Chicago, Ill., 1981; M.P.P., University of Chicago, Chicago, Ill., 1985; J.D., Loyola University School of Law, Chicago, Ill., 1989; professor; lawyer; legislative aide; member of the Cook County, Ill., board of commissioners, 1998-2009; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Eleventh Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Rahm Emanuel, and reelected to the seven succeeding Congresses (April 7, 2009-present).
