Biography

A Representative from Washington; born in Vancouver, Clark County, Wash., July 29, 1952; B.A., Evergreen State College, Olympia, Wash., 1973; attended Portland State University, Portland, Oreg., 1974-1975; businessman; television broadcaster; member of the Washington state house of representatives, 1976-1986; minority leader, 1977-1985; chief clerk, 1985-1987; unsuccessful candidate for election to the One Hundred Twelfth Congress in 2010; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Thirteenth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2013-January 3, 2021); was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Seventeenth Congress in 2020, but was elected lieutenant governor of Washington; lieutenant governor of Washington, 2021–present.
