A Representative from New York; born in Massapequa, Nassau County, N.Y., August 25, 1952; graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School, New York City, N.Y., 1970; B.S., State University of New York, Brockport, N.Y., 1974; J.D., Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., 1979; staff, United States House of Representatives Committee on Government Operations, 1979-1981; commissioner, New York state legislative bill drafting commission, 1983-1986; member of the New York state assembly, 1986-2002; unsuccessful candidate for election as New York state comptroller in 2002; member of the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority, N.Y., 2003-2006; unsuccessful candidate for election as Governor of New York in 2006; lawyer, private practice; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Fifteenth Congress (January 3, 2017-January 3, 2019); unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Sixteenth Congress in 2018.
