Representative from Michigan; born in Detroit, Wayne County, Mich., August 10, 1960; attended Berkley High School, Berkley, Mich., and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, Bethesda, Md., 1978; B.A., Williams College, Williamstown, Mass., 1983; M.A., University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich., 1990; J.D., Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., 1994; staff attorney, U.S. Commission on the Future of Worker-Management, 1994; trade union organizer; trade union director; chief workforce officer, state of Michigan, 2007-2010; acting director, Michigan department of energy, labor, and economic growth, 2007-2011; business executive; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Sixteenth and to the succeeding Congress (January 3, 2019-January 3, 2023); unsuccessful candidate for renomination to the One Hundred Eighteenth Congress in 2022.
