Representative from North Carolina; born on July 1, 1964; B.S., University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C., 1986; J.D., University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C., 1990; lawyer, private practice; Mecklenburg County, N.C., commissioner, 2004-2008; member of the North Carolina state house of representatives, 2015-2017; member of the North Carolina state senate, 2017-2019; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Sixteenth Congress, by special election as directed by the North Carolina state board of elections, and reelected to the two succeeding Congresses (September 10, 2019-January 3, 2025); was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Nineteenth Congress in 2024, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election for attorney general of North Carolina; deputy director, Office of Management and Budget, 2025-present.
