Representative from North Carolina; born on July 1, 1964; B.S., University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C., 1986; J.D., University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C., 1990; lawyer, private practice; Mecklenburg County, N.C., commissioner, 2004-2008; member of the North Carolina state house of representatives, 2015-2017; member of the North Carolina state senate, 2017-2019; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Sixteenth Congress, by special election as directed by the North Carolina state board of elections, and reelected to the two succeeding Congresses (September 10, 2019-January 3, 2025); was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Nineteenth Congress in 2024, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election for attorney general of North Carolina.Courtesy of Biographical Directory of the United States Congress
