Biography
Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio, May 7, 1898; moved with his parents to New Castle, Lawrence County, Pa., c. 1901; attended the public schools; student in the Army Training Corps at the University of Pittsburgh in 1918; Chicago Musical College in Chicago, Ill., B.M., 1921 and D.M., 1948; Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pa., B.S., 1933; University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa., M.E., 1938, and took special studies at Pennsylvania State College at State College in 1932 and 1933; engaged in the construction business in Chicago, Ill., 1925-1929; taught school and engaged in educational work in supervisory and administrative positions in Illinois and Pennsylvania 1924-1947; also pursued a musical career as a concert artist and conductor; elected as a Republican to the Eightieth and to the seven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1947-January 3, 1963); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1962 to the Eighty-eight Congress; engaged in manufacturing 1963-1970; resided in Conneaut Lake, Pa.; died in Meadville, Pa., June 11, 1976; interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Conneaut Lake, Pa.Courtesy of Biographical Directory of the United States Congress
