Biography
Representative from Ohio; born at Kings Creek, Va. (now West Virginia), May 24, 1794; received a liberal schooling; moved to Cadiz, Ohio; member of the State senate 1828-1832; elected as a Jacksonian candidate to the Twenty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Humphrey H. Leavitt, and reelected to the succeeding Congress; reelected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress and served until his resignation on July 4, 1838 (December 1, 1834-July 4, 1838); president, Steubenville and Indiana Railroad; died on December 12, 1851, in New York City, N.Y.; interment at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, Ohio.
