Biography
Representative from California; born in Fort Niagara, N.Y., January 13, 1898; moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in 1908 and attended the public schools; during the First World War served as a private in the United States Army in 1917 and 1918; engaged in business in southern California 1919-1942; member of the California assembly 1932-1942; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh Congress, by special election, August 25, 1942, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Lee E. Geyer; reelected to the thirteen succeeding Congresses and served from August 25, 1942, to January 3, 1969; was not a candidate for reelection in 1968 to the Ninety-first Congress; resided in Inglewood, Calif., where he died March 17, 1974; interment in Inglewood Park Cemetery.Courtesy of Biographical Directory of the United States Congress
