Biography

a Senator from Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, November 13, 1898; attended the public schools and the University of Utah; during the First World War, served as a second lieutenant of Infantry; returned to the University of Utah and graduated in 1919; high school principal and later businessman and paint manufacturer; president, National Association of Manufacturers in 1949; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1950; reelected in 1956, 1962, and again in 1968 and served from January 3, 1951, until his resignation December 20, 1974; was not a candidate for reelection in 1974; resumed business pursuits; was a resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, until his death on December 19, 1993; interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
