Biography
Representative from North Carolina; born in Craven County, N.C., birth date unknown; member of the State house of commons, 1797-1799 and again in 1809; elected as a Democratic Republican to the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Congresses (March 4, 1803-March 3, 1809); one of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1804 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against John Pickering, judge of the United States District Court for New Hampshire; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1808 to the Eleventh Congress; elected to the Twelfth Congress (March 4, 1811-March 3, 1813); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1812 to the Thirteenth Congress; died at Spring Hill, Craven County, N.C., October 19, 1828.Courtesy of Biographical Directory of the United States Congress
