Biography

Representative from Ohio; born in Washington, Pa., January 25, 1796; attended private schools; was graduated from Washington College (now Washington and Jefferson College), Washington, Pa., in 1813; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Steubenville, Ohio, in 1817; United States land receiver in 1827 and 1828; member of the State senate in 1837 and 1838; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843); resumed the practice of law in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio, where he died May 23, 1861; interment in Union Cemetery.
