R. 5210 (29 STAT L 393, 6/11/96), A BILL MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO PROVIDE FOR THE EXPENSES OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 1897; WHICH AMENDMENT ELIMINATES THE DIRECT APPROPRIATION OF $94,700 FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF POOR AND DESTITUTE PERSONS IN PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS, AND FOR CHARITABLE AND REFORMATORY WORK IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, AND INSERTING INSTEAD, DIRECT AND SPECIFIC PAYMENTS OUT OF SAID APPROPRIATION TO EACH INSTITUTION, THE AMOUNTS TO BE PRORATED ACCORDING TO THE NUMBER OF INMATES IN PAID INSTITUTIONS.
