Biography
Representative from Kentucky; born in Louisa County, Va., March 15, 1786; attended the public schools; moved to Kentucky; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Mount Sterling, Montgomery County, Ky.; member of the Kentucky state house of representatives in 1812; served in the War of 1812 as captain of the Eighth Regiment, United States Infantry, 1813-1815; again a member of the Kentucky state house of representatives in 1819 and 1826; elected as a Jacksonian candidate to the Twentieth and to the two succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1827-March 3, 1833); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1832 to the Twenty-third Congress; resumed the practice of law; died in Mount Sterling, Ky., October 5, 1873; interment in Macphelah Cemetery.
