Description: TO AGREE TO THE CONFERENCE REPORT ON H.R. 366, PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS BENEFITS ACT OF 1976.

Bill summary: (Conference report filed in House, H. Rept. 94-1501) Public Safety Officers' Benefits Act - Provides that a public safety officer who dies as the direct and proximate result of a personal injury sustained in the line of duty, shall be entitled to $50,000 as specified in this Act. Allows for an interim payment of $3,000 to the persons entitled to receive a benefit. Provides that under specified circumstances no benefit shall be paid, including: (1) intentional misconduct of the public safety officer; (2) voluntary intoxication of the officer; and (3) where a potential beneficiary substantially contributed to the death of the public safety officer. Defines the terms used in this Act.

Bill titles: A bill to amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, as amended, to provide benefits to survivors of certain Public safety officers who die in the performance of duty.
