Bill summary: Amends the National Trails System Act to designate as components of the National Trails System: (1) the California National Historic Trail, extending from Independence and Saint Joseph, Missouri, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, to various points in California and Oregon; and (2) the Pony Express National Historic Trail, extending from Saint Joseph, Missouri, through Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada to Sacramento, California.
Directs the Secretary of the Interior to study and
determine the feasibility of designating the land and water route used to carry mail from Sacramento to San Francisco, California, as a component of the Pony Express National Historic Trail. Requires publication in the Federal Register if such designation is made. Directs the Secretary to submit such study, with its findings, to specified congressional committees.
