THE MELCHER AMENDMENT PROVIDES FOR THE PUBLIC AUCTION OF NATIONAL FOREST TIMBER ACCORDING TO THE METHOD OF BIDDING THAT THE SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE DEEMS APPROPRIATE.

Amends the National Forest Management Act of 1976 to alter the procedures for timber sales from National Forest System lands. Directs the Secretary of Agriculture to select the most appropriate method of bidding. Bill titles: An Act to amend section 14(e) of the National Forest Management Act of 1976.; A bill to establish an Advisory Committee on Timber Sales Procedure appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture for the purposes of studying and making recommendations with respect to, procedures by which timber is sold by the Forest Service, and to restore stability to the Forest Service timber sales program and provide an opportunity for congressional review.
