THE MELCHER AMENDMENT PROVIDES FOR THE PUBLIC AUCTION OF NATIONAL FOREST TIMBER ACCORDING TO THE METHOD OF BIDDING THAT THE SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE DEEMS APPROPRIATE.

Bill summary: (Measure passed Senate, amended) Amends the National Forest Management Act of 1976 to alter the procedures for timber sales from National Forest System lands. Directs the Secretary of Agriculture to select the most appropriate method of bidding.
