R. 695 (12 STAT. 656, APP. 2/20/1863), A BILL TO PROVIDE FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF A DEPUTY REGISTER IN THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES; WHICH AMENDMENTS STRIKE OUT "DEPUTY" AND INSERT "ASSISTANT;" AND PROVIDE THAT THE DUTY OF SUCH ASSISTANT SHALL BE SUCH AS MAY BE DEVOLVED ON HIM BY REGISTER OF THE TREASURY, AND THAT IN ABSENCE OF THE REGISTER, SAID ASSISTANT SHALL ACT IN HIS STEAD.
